Nichola and Simons Rowton Castle wedding
Late last summer I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Nichola and Simon’s wedding at Rowton Castle. A venue I’ve worked at many time before, Rowton Castle is a fantastic location for a wedding. Located just outside Shrewsbury in Shropshire, Rowton castle is a grade 2 listed building steeped in history. One of the many things I love about photographing weddings at Rowton Castle is the amount of variety the venue has to offer in terms of photography. There are countless different angles to use with the castle as a backdrop, plus the outdoor wedding temple and then there is the secret garden. I always look forward to going back there, the couple could not have picked a better place for the wedding.
On the morning of the wedding Nichola started getting ready in the Orchard suite. Bridal Prep gives me an opportunity to get to know the bridal party a bit more and gives lots of opportunity for storytelling as Nichola was having her hair and makeup finished. When she was ready her dad came to collect her and they shared a very emotional moment, always one of my favourite moments on the wedding day.
I caught up with Simon when he arrived at the venue to greet his guests, family and friends were wishing him well and trying to take the edge off his nerves. One thing I noticed was Simons lovely suite, a style I’ve not seen much.
Rowton Castle wedding ceremony
The ceremony room at Rowton castle is a very long narrow room. The bridal part enters via high wooden double doors at the far end, it really does make a very grand entrance. It was a lovely relaxed ceremony and I could see all the guests were engrossed in the emotion.
Wedding photography at Rowton Castle
After the ceremony guests mingled inside as we had a little rain, fortunately this cleared just long enough for us to get a few shots outside. It wasn’t dry enough to make full use of the grounds but at Rowton that doesn’t matter too much. There are plenty of opportunities and angles without needing to go on the grass.
As a documentary photographer my main focus is always the natural story-telling photos. I enjoy drifting among the guests to take the best shots and witness the stories unfold as the hours go by.
Arcade games at a wedding
Nichola and Simon had planned a right treat for the evening. They had booked a handful of arcade machines to entertain the guests. Whats better at a wedding than having a dance off or a car race after a few gins? As the evening drew in it was time to take to the dance floor and dance the night away. It was a long time in the planning but Nichola and Simon pulled off a fantastic wedding and I’m sure they will be really happy together.
If you’re planning a wedding and would like relaxed photography coverage please give me a shout and tell me your plans.
